FUTURE OF THE BOOK

During my internship at IDEO New York, I was involved in a conceptual project about the future of the book from beginning to end.

Following an exciting week of intensive brainstorming together with the resident team of interaction and communication designers, business developers and human factor specialists - we synthesized a spectrum of ideas about how books could be read when circumstanced with a digital context.

Accordingly, the next steps were refining these concepts in terms of content, design behavior, and differentiating characteristics. The core team from the devlopment phase consisted of Project Lead Robert Lenne, Interaction Designer Daniel Goddemeyer, Christina Nizar as Communication Designer, and myself as Interaction Designer & Filmmaker.

My commitments asides from ideation and workshop facilitation involved for a large part defining and appropriating the interactions that would be proposed for each concept. I then storyboarded the film as the script was being developed, and created several prototypes regarding props and filming style. Subsequently I had the key role of creating the final film in terms of motion design, planning and executing the filming as well as final edits before official launch in September 2010.

NELSON - Encapsulates the idea about a new medium that would enhance validation of content by digital communities and authenticated sources. Nelson layers quantitative measures of information and delivers them in a more qualitative and summarized form.
COUPLAND - Embeds upon it a form of networking for companies through litterary inclinations. This platform would facilitate a larger appreciation for interest to litterature within a company but equally so inbetween industry sectors, and company wide.
ALICE - Appears as the true story engager, as it embodies the ideas about interactive narratives, where readers are asked to perform certain actions to participate in the story in particular forms; allowing for unique reading experiences.
