INTERACTION PROJECTS:

INDUSTRIAL SOUND

This course was a collaborative effort between myself, Amid Moradganjeh and Tae-yeol Lim. In two weeks we had an extensive ideation phase and decided to work with Sound and Light.

Our project involves active participation from the user for a graphic replication of input parameters such as volume and pitch of voice.

The soundbox is built like a podium, where a microphone is placed behind the top of the box. The user then performs a visual scenario that is projected in front of him/her, which is unique at any given time, due to the large amount of variables that create the graphics.

We sketched a variety of concepts, and ended up with a minimalist design using only triangles and circles. The triangles are constrained to the center of each side, and use rotation, scale and change of color as their behavior. The circles also point to the center of the screen (projected), but with only size and color change as their behavior.

The soundbox can also be used to visualize music as a stand-alone device. We used the software processing to visualize the interaction, with the minim and sonia library.
