VISUALIZATION PROJECTS:
STOPMOTION A PART OF THIS PUZZLE UID PORTAITS ADVENTURES OF ROCKY

PRODUCT STORYTELLING / STOPMOTION

Early autumn, Interaction Design students joined force with Advanced Design Visualization students to participate in an intensive workshop about experimental photographic techniques, primarily stop-motion as a tool.

The workshop was conducted by Creative Director of Berg London, Timo Arnall and Founder of Tellart, Matt Cottam. Further guidance and facilitation was provided by Phd student Camille Mousette.

In collaboration with Benjamin Lopez; we invested learning in Dragon Stop motion and explored a variety of techniques with variables such as material, lighting, and camera perspectives.

The conclusive work from each small team in the workshop involved ellaborating a short, raw and convincing story about any product which we may be inclined to choose. Benjamin and I agreed to have a camera be the protagonist, and as such it became somewhat of a metastory to the technique used as well.

During 15 hours straight we photographed over 2000 single frames, which we then imported to after effects, to add sounds and compile a final film.

DOCUMENTATION

Leading up to the final assignment, I worked together with Benjamin for various small assignments. As the first warm-up we acquainted ourselves with using dragon stop motion, which allowed for immediate previews of all most recent images. Importantly this software provided us with the ability to work with a grid, and onionskinning between images. These small tools were really useful in terms of being precise and having more control and flexibility for planning the next shot.
